1 & 1/3 cups Flour
2/3 tsp. Baking Powder
1/3 tsp. Salt
1/3 tsp. Baking Soda
1/8 cup Sugar
1 tsp. Cinnamon
1/3 cup Raisins
1/4 cup Shortening
2/3 cup Buttermilk
1 cup Confectioner's Sugar
1/4 tsp. Vanilla
Milk
Mix Flour, Baking Powder, Salt, Baking Soda, and Sugar in a medium sized mixing bowl. Add shortening and knead by hand until the mixture is a uniform crumbly dough. Add buttermilk and knead dough until just mixed. Add Raisins and Cinnamon until swirled through batter. Do not mix batter any more than absolutely necessary. Place mixture on a floured cutting board and spread out into a flat mass about 3/4 inches thick. Use a large cookie/biscuit cutter to make biscuits. Reknead the dough and spread as required. Place on a cookie sheet and bake at 400°F for 10-15 minutes until golden brown.
While baking, add Confectioner's Sugar and Vanilla together in a small bowl. Stir in Milk until a thick, drizzling icing is formed. Spread over biscuits when they come out of the oven.
Makes about 8 large biscuits.
